Atlantis / the Sea

With Atlantis / the Sea, Radouan Mriziga completes his trilogy on landscapes as sources of movement and meaning. Atlas / the Mountain explored the mountains, Magec / the Desert - selected for Het TheaterFestival 2026 - explored the desert. Now the sea takes center stage as an elusive and dynamic system of currents, rhythms and forces.
The sea fascinates and unsettles, yet it also connects: since the earliest civilizations, goods, ideas and stories have traveled across its waters, and cultures have intertwined. For this creation, Mriziga draws inspiration from the Mediterranean, for centuries a meeting point between Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Andalusian music, shaped by the meeting of cultures on both shores of the Mediterranean, forms the beating heart of the performance.
Mriziga brings together six dancers and four musicians in a layered interplay of movement and sound. This new creation premieres at DE SINGEL, where Mriziga deepens his choreographic research on the scale of the main stage, shaping it into a spatial and musical composition.
Atlantis / the Sea approaches the sea as a living repository of knowledge: not to dominate, but to listen to.
